Abstract

his paper tackles the main diiculties that emerged as a result of the Yasuní ITT Initiative whereby Ecuador sought to avoid oil exploitation in the Block 43 of Yasuní’s National Park. Besides, it analyzes the possibilities that alternatives such as Montreal’s Protocol ofer for a more efective application of measures related to the preservation and conservation of the environment. Finally, it relects on the responsibility of the international community and the role of the President of Ecuador, Rafael Correa, in the failure of the Initiative.
