BRICS as sponsors of change in the International Financial Architecture

At the beginning of the new century, the group of BRICS countries was emerging as potential powers, hinting at an incipient shift in international economic dynamism. However, it wasn't until the international financial crisis of 2008 that they found opportunities to advocate for a reform of the traditional Bretton Woods institutions and consolidate their power within the International Financial Architecture (IFA). Consequently, this study starts from the assumption that the creation of the New Development Bank (NDB) is part of a strategy by the BRICS to strengthen their position in the IFA and accelerate its reconfiguration. The 2008 financial crisis marked a turning point in exacerbating these changes. Therefore, the object of the research is to analyze the role of the BRICS within the post-2008 IFA.
